Story of Naraka Chaturdasi: Killing of Narakasura by Satyabama.

 

Sri Krishna and Satyabhama

Godess Aditi (below), whose ear rings were stolen by Narakasura. This angered Satyabhama.

Narakasura (below), the demon who stole Mother Aditi's ear rings and tortured people. He had recieved a boon such that only a woman could kill him.

Satyabhama was very angry when Narasura hurt her husband Sri Krishna. She attacked Narakasura (below) with Lord Krishna as her charioteer and killed him.

Sri Krishna and Satyabama returning to their home. They are welcomed by people who have now been freed from the atrocities of Narakasura. Thus we celebrate this day as Narakachathurdasi.

On Narakachathurdasi day, we sing this song before we take 'oil bath.'

ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಚ್ಛಿದ ಹಾಡು

ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿ ಗೋಪಿ ತಾ ಹರಸಿದಳು ||ಪ||

ಆ ರುಕ್ಮಿಣಿಗೆ ನೀನರಸನಾಗು |

ದ್ವಾರವತಿಗೆ ನೀ ದೊರೆಯಾಗೆನುತಲಿ ||2||
